Though our conscience is that inner voice that tells us what is right or wrong, we as people can also manipulate it. It has always been a powerful motivator that convinces us of what we should do, yet I feel there are some things that over power it.
As you can see through out history, money, fame and power have often taken over decisions regardless of conscience. One example of this is a teacher who is offered a large quantity of money to give a student the answers to the upcoming final exam. While deep inside he knows that it's illegal and wrong, his family isn't doing too well financially and some money could really help them out. Seeing this great oppurtunity, he is able to overlook his feelings about it being wrong, and push those aside. Instead he is willing to focus on the good aspects this of money will bring.
So clearly, while your conscience plays a key role in your decision making, often it is easy to avoid that small voice in your head and just look at the positive aspects. Money especially, is a powerful thing that can motivate people to do almost anything, even if it's wrong. After all, we as people tend to be more materialistic, and a conscience just doesn't provide us those wants.
